WEIGHT LOSS DRUGS LINKED TO SERIOUS LIVER INJURIES

Today the FDA issued a safety alert to warn healthcare providers and consumers about reports of liver injuries occurring in patients taking the weight loss drug orlistat, marketed as the prescription drug Xenical and the over-the-counter version Alli.

Between 1998 and 2008, the FDA received 32 reports of serious liver injury in people taking orlistat; 27 required hospitalization and 6 resulted in liver failure. It is common knowledge that adverse events are underreported, so it is safe to assume that the actual numbers are much higher.  Read more article here...
